What is CBD Oil
Ok guys I wanted to take a few minutes to give an over view of what CBD oil is and how can it help you. There is plenty of information out their regarding CBD oil so I am not going to regurgitate information but I would like to give my perspective of the uses of CBD oil as a massage therapist and what I have learned and why I believe it would be beneficial for many types of conditions such as sleep disorders, addiction, and mental illness.
For the last 13 years I have been a medical massage therapist and I have had every kind of client possible. I work with people that are fortunate to have little to no pain other than a few here and their trigger points or sore muscles. I have also worked with people who are not so lucky and struggle with pain every day of their lives. As a massage therapist it is in my nature to want to take peoples pain away even at the cost of my own health. I have left sessions in tears at times when I see clients who can barely walk or stand up straight. People take their health for granted. People take their bodies for granted.
People don’t just get massages when their bodies hurt. Mental illness is all around us and the scariest part with mental illness is that it can be a silent killer. Just because someone acts fine does not mean they are ok at all. We as a society are so wound up and busy we forget to breathe! This is why anxiety and depression affects 1 in 4 adults. This is why people can’t sleep, this is why people take handfuls of prescription medication and still have no relief for their chronic pain.
I am not saying CBD Oil is the cure for everything but if their is the slightest chance that this plant could eliminate your need for pills or help you sleep at night or take away even some of your pain, wouldn’t you want to try it?
Again guys, I am only a massage therapist so read with caution and learn, that’s all I want. Here are my findings; the history, the health benefits, how to use it, and where to get it, enjoy.
First, what is CBD oil? CDB oil is one cannabinoid (1 active indigent) inside the marijuana plant. You can extract the oil from both marijuana and hemp. Hemp has a higher level of CBD oil which is why most companies use hemp as their main source for extraction. Hemp also has a lower level of THC present which makes it a more practical choice for larger companies as this product is still gaining momentum and understanding across the states.
What makes this product so effective and therapeutic for us is the fact we have cannabinoid receptors all over our bodies. These receptors allow the CBD oils to attach to our skin, our digestive tract and our reproductive organs just to name a few. CBD interacts with cells in our bodies that we produce naturally call endocannabinoids. ECS cells play a huge role in our body and have a hand in nearly every aspect of our lives. CBD attaches to the ECS cells, they make friends and your body is happy! Hope that makes sense for you.
CBD’s journey to the center stage. In the 1940’s a team at the University of Illinois first isolated the CBD main chemical components for the first time. At that time they labeled it toxic for human consumption despite findings that it was shown to have therapeutic benefits for lab animals with epilepsy.
CBD sat idle for 20 years till 1963 a new team of scientist were able to isolate THC for the first time, and managed to syntheses both cannabinoid compounds (they were able to separate the plant even further in a big way)
In 1973-74 CBD was first tested on epilepsy patients. The findings were inconclusive. Despite this the research continued and in the mid 70’s it was discovered that CBD was quite effect for reducing nausea and vomiting caused my chemotherapy. The sedative effect of CBD was realized at that time.
In the 80’s a small study was conducted in Brazil and concluding CBD oils to have a great impact on children with epilepsy. In 82, it was discovered CBD could help patients suffering from psychotic disorders and eliminate the use of some medications. By 1988 the scientific community could agree CBD oil had a great potential in many aspects in the heath field with the discovery of the endocannabinoid system. After this discovery CBD has been gaining momentum ever since. At the end of the 90’s it was revered as a powerful cellular antioxidant and believed to be a powerful tool against diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson.
The list of benefits CBD has is constantly growing and hopefully soon the restrictive laws holding back this product and it’s healing possibilities will be lifted to help those suffering from mental illness and chronic pain.
As more and more people open their eyes to the possibility CBD oil has, of course their will be companies out their trying to cash in on this miracle product! First off guys, CBD oil is amazing and has so many documented medicinal properties but this oil is not the tears of Jesus Christ. So when you’re researching products you are interested in purchasing really read the content and use your best judgment. If a site is saying their product is the end all be all of CBD oils take caution. Wonderful site to visit would be Projectcbd.org in this site you will find so much wonderful and useful content!
I must note when searching for the right product for yourself you should know that CBD is extracted two ways.
What is Hemp oil? Hemp oil is extracted from hemp seeds. This type of hemp is specifically produced industrially and the amount of psychoactive substances that are contained in it is minimal.
What is CBD oil? Cannabidiol is a natural component of industrial cannabis or hemp. It is made from the flowers, leaves and stalks of hemp and not from its seeds like hemp oil.
How to Administure
Ok, we know the history, the uses, the difference between hemp and CBD. Now lets look at the different types of products and how to administer the oils.
Tinctures is the purest and most popular form. You simply place a few drops on your tongue and your good to go. I have done this and I will tell you the taste is not great but the bitterness goes away fast. Concentrates typically are the strongest dosage you can get and should be reserved for those who are in chronic pain, cancer patients, or suffer from server mental heath issues. Capsules is the easiest way to add CBD oils to your life. This would be a great supplement to help balance your mind and body. Topicals you can get CBD in lotions, salve, and lip balms. I to have used the balms in my massage sessions and I have found it to be a fabulous addition as it helps with inflammation, psoriasis, and chronic pain. Sprays are the weakest concentration among the different types. Despite its weak content it’s still a popular choice for its convenience and price. Vapes is also a popular choice because you can control potency but many people do not want to vape or smoke so luckily their are several other options out their to help administer the oils.
As I previously sated their are many companies out their trying to do the same things and I have looked at many of them. If you are ready to try CBD oils in whatever form you see fit. My top 3 companies:
I have only started my journey with CBD oils. I have used some on massage sessions and my clients have been responding well to it. They reported having a slight tingling effect on the skin at times, they felt more relaxed than normal and having more mental clarity.
On a personal level I have anxiety pretty bad at times and as I get older and my responsibilities increase my anxiety increases as well. I run a business a very busy business and I’m a mom with one beautiful son and hopefully more children if I am lucky. Despite my success I have panic attacks that literally have brought me to my knees before. Having that feeling like someone is standing on your chest, yeah that happens to me sometimes to often.
That’s the thing about mental illness, you put on a smile and people are none the wiser. This is why I feel products like CBD can help. I don’t want to take pills everyday and I know I am not alone in that. I have suggested three companies to look at but guys, do your own research. You are smart I know you will find your answers just don’t give up. Thanks for listening.
